Urban Warriors set for Arrows test
The Momentum Friendship Games lived up to their alliance status as the Standard Bank Alice Regional Performance Centre played host to Selborne College under 15 and 19 sides at Fort Hare University yesterday.
The Friendship Games were not the only excitement on the day as the Alice RPC had an opening ceremony of their B-Field.
Border Cricket President and CSA Board Member, Tando Ganda, was there to perform the opening ceremony alongside Cricket South Africa partners, Momentum and JCB Kemach.
Members of the local community, Selborne College players and Border Cricket Association members were also on hand to make the event a memorable one.
Cricket South Africa’s General Manager: Cricket Corrie Van Zyl appreciated and thanked all partners involved for their contribution and their continuous support for the project.
“This has been a long project that needed everyone within the cricket fraternity to get involved and make it work,” said Van Zyl.
“It is a great occasion for us at Cricket South Africa to see the work that has been done by Border Cricket and our partners. The opening of this field goes to show what we can do when we come together for the benefit of the game. This field will open doors to so many young talented kids in the Alice area and our hope is that they will go on to become excellent cricket players and even better individuals.”
The efforts are already underway to get more Junior cricket to be played on the B-field and a house league in the town of Alice for youth in promoting the game of cricket within schools.
Both Momentum Friendship Games were won by Selborne College.
As part of their support for the RPC and Hubs program, JCB Kemach also handed over a pitch roller and equipment to the Alice RPC.
